Epping Football Club was formed in 1948 as Coopersale FC, playing within the village of Coopersale, on the outskirts of Epping. The clubs early years were spent playing in the Harlow & District Football League. Around about 1972 the club moved to its current location at Stonards Hill, Epping, playing on one of the outer lying pitches. The tenant of the main pitch in those days was Epping Town FC, who were then playing in the Athenian League. In 1976 the club successfully gained admittance to the Essex Olympian League. In 1985 saw the demise of Epping Town FC who were at the time members of the Isthmian League (currently Bostik League), due to financial difficulties. This left Coopersale FC as the town's senior football side. The club subsequently took over custody of the main pitch, where the 1st and Reserve teams played. Unfortunately the main stand had to be dismantled for safety reasons and the floodlights also had to go for the same reason.
In 1992 Coopersale FC became Eppingsale FC, in order to identify more with the town of Epping, before changing to its current name of Epping Football Club in 1999. The club saw success in past seasons, with the first team being crowned Senior Division two champion in 2001/'02. In the same season they reached the semi-final of the prestigious Cherry Red Books Feeder League Cup, where a record crowd of over 500 spectators saw them lose to eventual winners Enfield Town (of the Essex Senior League). The reserves have also tasted success in recent years, earning back-to-back promotions in season’s 1999/2001 and 2001/'02 and in 2004/5 were runners-up in Reserve Division Two and promoted to Reserve Division One.
In thirty seasons of competing within the Essex Intermediate/Olympian Football League the 1st and Reserve teams have competed in over 1900 league fixtures between them.
Unfortunately in recent years it has become a struggle and subsequently the Reserve team dropped out of the League at the end of the 2011/12 season and in January 2017 the Club finished playing altogether due to finances and ability to attract players. During the summer of 2017, a lot of hard work was done to reform the Club and, with assistance, help and understanding from the Town Council and League, it has been entered back into the Essex Olympian Football League.
In 2018, new management took over and had immediate success, coming runners up in Division 4 and gaining promotion to Division 2.
2020 was looking promising for another promotion when all football was suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
