Epping Town Football Club are up to fifth in Essex Olympian League Senior Division Four – with up to four games in hand on the sides above them – after a 3-0 victory over Lakeside Reserves at Stonards Hill.
New signing James Peagram scored a hat-trick as Epping Town boosted their goal difference (+21) to be the joint highest in the division.
Manager Billy Cove said: “It was a massive three points for us. We showed a lot of character and did ourselves a lot of favours, a clean sheet and a hat-trick from James Peagram. That’s what I brought him into the club for.
“I’m just really pleased because they’re a really good side. First half I thought they were one of the best sides we’ve played this season.
“We got the job done, 3-0.”
Before kick-off, the club welcomed Epping Forest MP Dame Eleanor Laing who met club officials and joined the team for a team photograph before the match.
She heard from club chairman Chris Ottaway about the club’s plans, which included a hoped-for new spectator shelter / stand.
